GREAT photo Steve! This Union Pacific Railroad owned bridge is surely unique and will be
celebrating its 100th anniversary in 2012.
And yes, the west end of the Steel Bridge and the general area around Union Station is a
gathering place for all kinds of homeless. Lots of service type organizations to serve
their needs and we are building a high rise just south of Union Station and west of the Greyhound depot to house them.....understand we will have storage lockers for their stolen grocery carts.
On the upside, I haven't had any problems in the area during the day light hours. The PNWC-NRHS has facilities/offices in the Union Station Annex. The Union Station security guards are full of stories.
I always have wondered how the pedestrian walkway on their bridge got UP's approval. Then a retired ODOT-rail friend mentioned that UP allowing the pedestrian walkway got mostly all the trespassers off the bridge.
Did you enjoy our "rock piles"...........at least that is what a worker putting up the sidewalk "art" called them when I asked him what he was building.
Great picture, thanks for posting and visiting our Rose City. Arlen
