Pink On Pumpkins?

I pulled out a few picture albums for a friend, and was astonished when he pointed out pink walkways on a BNSF DASH9-44CW H1 (upper #900's). Now, I'm not sure if it was my film paper that was faded, the level of exposure, or another unrelated factor......

I took the photos right when the "Pumpkins" started to arrive (they were still in 3 unit sets), and really didn't expect to see them at all being only a couple of weeks old at the most. They were remarkably clean, and I was making a tour of the mainline from Pasco, Wa to Spokane, Wa. I had photographed about 7-8 of the new units- none at an elevation higher than the sills except one at Trinidad Loop, on my return leg home. I was wondering if that batch of locomotives were painted that way, or if it was in fact another element that makes the walkways seem pink. They're too dirty now to tell.
