The tower operator is giving a roll by to the E&N train as it enters Diamond Yd. near Nanaimo on Vancouver Island on this June 1968 day. I had ridden down on MB 2-6-2 1077 earlier that morning with Pete McGovern with the days log loads. After he set out his train here, he suggested that I might try to get a photo of the empties crossing the diamond. You can see the steamer just above the operators head in the background.
Forty minutes later, Pete had the air on the empties and we left Diamond headed for Camp. The little Prairie was a close cousin the McCloud's 22-23, but she lacked a Superheater so both injectors were left on for most of the trip. We met Crown-Zellerback on the way at the only siding that I can recall and had to stop as the switch was not yet lined for us. Exciting getting out of there again.
