I was able to experience the Nanaimo Lakes operation a couple of times in the mid '60. Never did hit it right to see the 1077 operating...it was always 1055. During my last visit, in 1966, my wife and I visited the operation. It wasn't quite a honeymoon as we were married in '65 but was early enough in our marriage that I could still talk my wife into spending a whole day chasing trains. Now she just tells me to go on my own. Anyway, we spend a lot of time photographing at the reload and riding around with the crew. Before leaving for Ladysmith they took a lunch break. My wife and I didn't pack a lunch and there certainly wasn't anyplace to get one at the reload. The crew noticed our situation and chipped in to share their lunch with us. Certainly one of the memories that is up there among to top ten in my career as a "train nut". Then there was Hillcrest and Harry Wright...but that's another story.
