Then there was Hillcrest and Harry Wright...but
that's another story.
Bill, I wrote an obit for Harry last year and you can still probably find it if you go back
to around late April or May of '09. I'd be interested in any stories you can recall. He
and I were good friends over 40 years. He was really well read on steam and worked in
big power plants after Hillcrest folded just as I did. We always had common subjects to
talk about. When I first starting working for Klamath & Hoppow Valley in June of '72, I
found out just how much I didn't know and was always on the phone with him for advice...
he always came through too.
I invited him down to Rio Vista Junction around '73 or so and let him run Shay 11. He
liked the PC type and didn't want to go home after that. Last time we were together was
in January of 2006 in Mineral, WA and we were both guest engineers on Climax 10. He hadn't
been on her for over 30 years and it was like he never missed a step. He showed my
daughter Kate how to start her and let her run it light in the yard a little.
He was pretty legendary in the Lake Cowichan pubs and I spent a few evenings with him
in some of those establishments.
Besides the obit here, I did one on the NGDF about the same time.
