Here's another theory regarding the two mystery cars on the rear of the GN passenger train...

SP&S had purchased five former "Texas Special" Pullman-Standard cars from MKT in 1966 (a baggage-mail and a diner) and 1967 (two full coaches and a buffet-coach), and NP purchased six former MKT coaches in 1965. It's possible that these cars came from one or both of these purchases.
