Season's Greetings from the East Coast (Day, Night, Steam and Doodlebugs)

Season's Greetings from the East Coast, specifically, the First State!

I made the trek from my normal shooting grounds of Philadelphia and headed South to
Wilmington, Delaware to see a favorite, somewhat hidden gem of a tourist line located
in the backwoods of Wilmington. Located just 5 miles West of the Amtrak station, the
first 1 minute of this excursion will take you far away from any sign of the urban
sprawl of surrounding Wilmington.

The line, of course, is the historic Wilmington and Western Railroad chartered in 1867
to move goods from the Port with aspirations of eventually reaching Pittsburgh PA. At
one time the B&O Railroad owned the line hoping to bypass the mighty PRR in a route
to NYC.

The line is much shorter now but it's charm remains!

Enjoy the tour featuring one rare 4-4-0 American and an equally rare PRR Doodlebug as
the pair travel in Holiday form over the line as seen Sunday, Dec 19th, 2010!

W&W #98, a 4-4-0 American (Daytime set)
W&W #98 a minute into her journey already in the woods

W&W #98 over the Red Clay Creek and into a Cut

PRR #4662, a PRR Doodlebug dressed in holiday lights (Night set)
PRR #4662 posed at Greenbank Station at twilight

PRR #4662 at night lit up with Holiday lights passing a covered bridge (wow)

PRR #4662 at ngiht, dressed in lights at the cut coming over a small trestle (nice!)

For more information about this historic line visit the site at: The W&W Railroad

Hope you enjoyed - Happy Holidays!

/Mitch
