You're right about the line not being the best for a run such as this.

Was this an actual, operating Grandluxe run or just a ferry move of cars from the old shop complex at Western Junction? I would have thought they would have cleared out all the AOE rolling stock long ago. Plus, why use an Amtrak locomotive for an equipment move?

FYI, the History Channel's "Boneyard" series profiled railroad operations in this past Thursday's program, and one of the segments was on the Colorado Railcar/Grandluxe operation at Fort Lupton, Colo. The segment also featured footage clearly shot at the Western Junction shop complex. There was a brief shot of the graffiti-covered ex-MILW super Dome stored at the site, which I recognized from having photographed it back in July 2005. They also had footage of AOE cars around the shop building.
