I do not know about the 3751. However, with the 4449 we plan on using an average of 10-12 gallons of fuel per mile when out on the mainline with a big train. A small amount of this is allocated to the fuel needed while parked and moving to and from its storage place. It is easy to see why the railroads moved from steam to diesel when the cost of fuel is involved.

We also plan on a 10 to one ratio of water to fuel. The Portland to Tacoma leg of this year's NRHS convention will involve the consumption of just over 1,700 gallons of fuel and 20,000 gallons of water.
