I am a diabetic and I wear the Medic Alert bracelet. It is not fool proof however.
People dealing with the problem must be able to see and recognize the Medic Alert ID for what it is. The patient/offender must allow the employee to read the back of the ID. Hard to do in poor light and if the wearer is not cooperating. Those are the pitfalls.
The benefits of the ID are many. It is important to that wearer be forthcoming with his condition if he is able. I found it hard to talk about why I was wearing the ID until I realized that if I needed help, I could not be reluctant in providing the person assisting me with important information.
I am a retired firefighter/EMT and I know first hand that the Medic Alert ID works. That is why I kind of went off topic here to encourage people with medical conditions to consider an ID.
