I don't think he ever owned a private car. You're right, though. He did charter entire trains. At least once he ran one from LA to Miami. I was at the Lomita Railroad Museum a few years ago and they had a dining car menu from "The Great Gleason Express" that ran in 1962 from LA to Miami. It was routed Santa Fe out of LA, but I'm not sure of the connecting roads. I remember seeing a photo of one of his trains, perhaps it was THAT one, in the Railroad News Photos section of TRAINS magazine.

I, too, would be interested in knowing more about the trains he chartered.
