There is an aviation story involving the Head of Northwest Orient Airlines, GE, & the DC - 10. When ordering these planes new, he was told they "only" came with a GE engine. His reply was along the lines of: " If I want a light bulb I'll call GE; when I want an engine I call Pratt & Whitney." Sooo, McDonnell Douglas had to redesign the engine nacelles slightly to fit the larger Pratt engine & win NW's order.
