Espee was the builder & sole owner of the Chemult to Klamath Falls trackage. After spending a great deal of time & money to build this line, ( construction was delayed during the CP - SP Federal anti - trust debacle ), they fought the GN trackage rights request to no avail. Giving partial ownership of the line to the GN was never mentioned that I'm aware of.
I do recall reading that Northern Pacific was originally a part - owner of the Oregon Trunk, separate from it's partial ownership of SP & S. I'm looking it up now.
