I would agree that Reno lost something of its character when the trench replaced the street-level rail alighment through the city's core. However, based on a 2002 visit to Reno, I was surprised to note a couple of closed casinos which I visited during my previous visit in 1997. I sensed that Reno was on a downward trend as Sparks became the place to go.
