Kevin--
Speaking from the mid-point of Davis, the train is doing MUCH better than last year, generally an hour late northbound. Southbound, when I've seen it an hour to a few hours late. The last few days have been worse, this morning for example it is running five hours late SB. This sort of approaches last year when the train was chronically about 6-10 hours late. Hopefully this is a minor glitch and they will get the train back to a "normal" couple of hours late. The Zephyr, has been doing terrible on its new schedule with three hours added. The train was running chronically almost exactly three hours late, now it runs hours late on its new, ultra-padded schedule. Last night it was eight hours late into Davis (ll hours late on the "normal" schedule). I've also heard they are often running into Winemucca on the new, three hours earlier schedule and then sitting in Winemucca for 2-3 hours waiting for the crew to get minimum rest from their WB trip. One hopes Amtrak and UP can work together to get these trains back on schedule, as one has hoped for the last few decades. Everyone pretty much expects to be 1-2 hours late, but beyond that people get grumpy. Beyond four hours is a bad dream, and beyond six hours is a nightmare for passengers.
