'Twould be sick and twisted indeed to see UP hand it over to a short line, but it's probably just a matter of time. Incidentally, it's still called the Wallace Branch (or Wallace Sub to be even more official), even though it no longer reaches Wallace. Note that in the MILW map in the current issue of Trains, they show it as having been MILW trackage rights over UP. Wrong. The track from Manito, WA, to Plummer Jct., ID, is actually of MILW heritage, having been built by them to access Spokane from the east. MILW used UP track from Manito on down Mica Hill. UP later got rights on the MILW between Manito and Plummer, and got full dibs on it after MILW abandoned. Just so happens that this week the MilWest group is meeting at Worley, ID, on the Wallace Sub, and I hear there's a meeting of WIM fans at Plummer.
