Shay 10 had just returned to Tuolumne from the woods with a load of logs. The caboose had been cut off and the engine wyed before beginning to push the train so the logs could be unloaded into the mill pond. The splash from logs hitting the water can be seen as they are being pulled from the car with the donkey located in the mill pond. The engine house can be seen over the caboose to the right of Shay 10 and the tops of the locomotives on the "garden track" are visible above the loaded log cars immediately behind number 10. This trip to the West Side was my first real train chasing experience and one of the most memorable. I am grateful for having been able to enjoy this unique operation before it died. The date was July 2, 1960.
