Re: Caltrain vs. bumper at SF deopt this morning
SF's Muni is going to shell out $6M for a rear-end collision between 2 LRV trains in the West Portal tunnel that occurred back in July 2009:
$4.5M for equipment damage and repairs,
$1.5M for injury claims by 40 passengers.
Another 12 pax claims have been presented to the SF Board of Supes (~$1M), and 5 more claims are listed as pending.
SFGate article
I can't begin to imagine what Caltrain will be facing with injury claims, including ambulance rides to the hospital.
Missing tooth: $$$
Neck injuries: $$$$ (ka-ching!)
Hurt knees and bumped heads: $$
Not to mention the hundreds of "passengers" who will claim they rode that train today.
