Doyle acquired three pairs of A-1-A trucks from FM Erie-Builts converted to a rail welding plant by CN in Canada, IIRC, and he traded one set of trucks for clear title to the hulk of #18. His responsibility for the "restoration" of #16 ended after it was set on the trucks he acquired for it. It always seemed to me like restoring the two units in tandem would have been more economical since so many missing parts had to be fabricated, but Doyle was never contracted to do #16 (Or maybe he didn't want to, given the extra carbody damage.)
