The issue of spelling and grammar is something that seems to be going by the board, if you will. I will be the first to admit that my skills in the arena are sadly lacking, and I grew up in an era when our schools still placed some importance on the subject.

Whether you are reading Altamont Press, Trainorders or a product review on Amazon .com, the lack of literary proficiency is visible everywhere today. One could explore the reasons for the decline until the proverbial cows come home, but that will not rectify the problem. The old farts among us, myself included, may not be comfortable with the situation, but it is I am afraid, a characteristic of a generation that grew up on MTV and the PC, the latter employing spelling and grammar checking software that is relatively unsophisticated. Moreover, whether we like it or not successive generations will easily adapt to what we consider to be the failings our current educational system.
