Re: Monorail fans only... Newark AirTrain (Vegas preview?)
That's what I'm saying. Kind of crazy, but I think the station was an afterthought - it was built in 2001 and the monorail was an extension of an existing system at the nearby airport.
Newark Penn Station is only about 5 minutes further down.
Now there is another station - Secaucus Transfer - which I've always wanted to photograph. Only problem there was it too was built recently and as a transfer only station between two separate lines. Pretty dumb but I believe that is being rectified with a new parking lot due to demand.
As for Acela speeds - here's a great site for a listing of speeds (if you can figure out the locations): [
web.me.com]
MAIN LINE, NEW YORK TO PHILADELHIA (NYP)
Maximum Speeds
County & Ham........135
Other <100
Hunter & Elmora.....110
Elmora & Union......125
Union & MP028......110
MP028 & County....125
Ham & Morris.........110
Morris & MP062.....125
MP062 & MP076....125
MP076 & Holmes...125
Not sure where "Newark" fits in there but I assume track speed through the
station is between 110 and 125. The Airport is adjacent to "Union", I believe.
I know just South is Elizabeth which has a restricted speed S-curve.
