Incredible waste of money!
All the railroads should have banded together and hired a bunch of lobbyist to get the FCC to exempt their tiny sliver of the radio spectrum for the road channels (Marine, Air and most of the military are exempt!)
A few million vs the hundreds of millions all the rails will waste replacing every road channel radio
It’s laughable that Amtrak who has to scrape by is forced to waste tens of millions on new radios!
I'm encouraging other crews to keep their old analog packsets so when the switchover to digital happens we can at least talk to each other!
Because we will not be able to talk to the dispatcher way out in the middle of nowhere!
