Trucker Bob is obviously missing the "Big Picture" in this. Trucks and rail should operate as a partnership. Trucks can handle the material in a local capacity with the railroads doing the long haul business. Bob could be home every night. Look at Schneider trucking and their policy with piggy-back traffic. Fuel savings and efficiency. Not to mention labor cost savings. He mentioned the NWP specificly. I travel on 101 between Novato and Santa Rosa, Cal Trans could widen that road out to 4 lanes in each direction and it would STILL be bumper to bumper most of the time.
Trucks and rail have been competitors since the beginning, it's good for business and keeps people honest for the most part. Look at what containers have done for commerce, for both industries. There is plenty to go around, so kwitcherbitchin and get to work.
