That's too bad. Those are neat old cars- AAR standard plans from the 1940's for single door 40 foot and double door 50 foot cars, running boards, plain bearings and AB Westinghouse brakes/iron shoes. Neat stuff for railway museums, but not possible most likely. I was able to take a few slides of them several years ago.
These are also the same kind of cars used at Seal Beach NWS, which I watched being switched when my ship USS David R. Ray DD971 (since then torpedoed during a NorthPac NATO training excercise) was onloading 5"/54 shells and missiles.
I would think that it would be cool to see a 'waiver' move of cuts of these cars running on their own wheels to the scrapper, but the powers that be have decided otherwise. Thanks for sharing that info- I've wondered when they would get cut.
