The 20million Yen purchase price converts to about 169,500.00 USD. Still an attractive price for the option of getting small ridership lines to remain active. I guess there is import duties, taxes, shipping and a whole slough of "add-ons" that could make North America wait for it to be proven in other countries of the world (maybe India?).
The region that I live in is quite spread out in terms of population. There are five city centers in Surrey alone, and being a population almost the size of Vancouver (550,000 people) but spread out over 300 square kilometers seems quite rural. The busses have evolved from the standard 50 seaters to 25-30 (I think) seaters. These new busses are called "community shuttles" and are actually saving money because of so many key bus routes with little ridership. The busses are easier to fill and can negotiate the tight turns in many side streets. Glad to see them in use because there have been additional routes added where the larger busses could only dream of traversing.
