The practice of putting people off of trains is about to go the way of discharging toilets on the right of way.
Amtrak is also being sued for putting a customer off of the Crescent at Leeds Alabama a year or so back. Seems he had on a T shirt with some sort of writing that one of the other passengers found "offensive". The conductor asked him to remove it and when he refused, he was put off.
By the time they get through paying for the Leeds incident, the diabetic, and this incident, there will be new protocols in place for handling this sort of thing. Even if they don't, when "word" gets out about how much the personal liability of the respective conductors had to pay in these incidents, you can be sure the practice will diminish on it's own.
None of the above should be construed to mean I am taking sides in this or any of the other incidents described.
