I do believe there may be better ways to run passenger trains, and it probably involves private operators. But as the saying goes, you can't throw out the baby with the bath water, which is what the Bush administration seems to want to do. It also seems to me that the administration spends an awful lot of energy trying to kill a program (Amtrak) that involves an amount of money that basically boils down to a "rounding error" when viewed in the context of a $2.7 trillion budget.
