I guess the Starlight must have gone into the yard after departing Emeryville because they added four cars to the rear of the train inside the yard and then came back out on the main line and stopped until the Capitol corridor passed on the second track.
When they only add one or two PVs a switch engine follows the SB Starlight down to the Oakland Jack London station after it passes the yard and adds the cars there or takes one off during the station stop and returns to the yard. I've never seen four cars added to a SB train 11 Maybe it's too many for a switch engine to be pushing down the line.
I have a limited view of the Oakland yard and did see some Superliner cars but not the PV's being moved by the yard switch engine around 8:30 a.m. I thought they were just empty cars being moved around for servicing since the engines for #11 were on an adjacent track with the baggage car and some of the other superliners.
I just assumed they had some liablity rules that would prevent passengers fromm being on a train in a yard while it was being assembled
