Well, no one got to the central issue with the SD75's. Both the SD70's and the SD75's used the same engine, but the 75's cranked out 300 extra HP in run eight because the max RPMs on the engine was raised (and the fuel rack adjusted, gotta keep the right air/fuel mix going). There was a lot of speculation in various motive power departments that the extra RPM's would lead to premature wear and failure, but it never panned out. I'd also like to point out that both CP and UP got the equivalent of the SD75MACs in the SD90/43MACs. Those 4300HP machines were reportedly some of the most reliable locomotives produced by anyone.
