Further on the Amtrak unit in consist: The train included a vista - baggage, 5 Amfleet coaches & a Horizon Cafe car, as well as 4 private dome cars. These cars all require HEP for onboard heat, cooling, & lights. The safety factor of extra motive power can be questioned in light of recent failures of Amtrak's GE locomotives, but this unit, # 202 was still operating today @ the layover location in Tacoma, WA. In my conversation with Doyle yesterday, I asked if he had to use the extra tractive effort of the Amtrak unit with such a short consist. His reply was once only, giving no specifics as to reasons why. He also said he was halfway up Napavine Hill before he knew he was on it; the 4449 was running so easily.
