Sorry, but if calculated by use weight and wheels, truck wear when fully loaded to 80,000 GVW equals about 9,300 full size passenger cars. I am supposed to enforce truck weights and safety for a living (won't say what state), we are only supposed to cite trucks that are grossly overweight (more than 10,000 pounds) or grossly in violation of safety rules (more than two inoperative brake cans) because we are not supposed to harass "good ol' boys trying to make a living". Fines are rarely collected in full, taxes paid by trucks do not ever come close to paying for 10% of their damage due to wear---just think about the math folks, trucks would be out of business if they paid the taxes equal to 9,300 cars!! From the laws I see coming down the pike, railroads are gonna have it even tougher if congress has it's way!
