I wish I had a million dollars to donate to the Friends of 4449 and other railroad heritage preservation organizations. But I don't.

I'm from the East and have been fortunate to ride behind 4449 during the 2005 and this year's NRHS Conventions. I don't know if the Stampede Pass trip provided any benefit to Friends of 4449, but I purchased a 2012 calendar and a magnet as well as provided a small donation at the vendors display in the NRHS Convention Hall.

There are many other organizations which are also worthy. To whom should I contribute and how much? I joined Friends of the 261 (a little closer to my home) and am a member of a trolley museum in the East because it does an excellent job of preservation.

Thoughts?
