What a great loss, especially for the town of McCloud. Malen was a standby fixture in that town for many years. I will think back of many wonderful hours in the cab of the SD's, and #18 with Malen. Always a gentleman and a real railroader. Malen is a friend I will miss along with the McCloud. I feel lucky I was able to photograph the great railroaders who ran the McCloud over the final years. It was a very special place with many special people and special thanks to Jeff Forbis for keeping the McCloud alive well beyond its profitable years.
