Not only is the type of crossing signal dictated by a well - known national traffic control standards group, the RR timing circuits are also dictated by the speed of the fastest train to use that stretch of track. Hopefully the Amtrak lead unit had an operable camera showing "The Whites" of the crossing signals blinking as the train rolled through the crossing. No doubt U.P. / FRA / NTSB checked all the circuits & signals, as well as any event or speed recorder on board the locomotive, in the aftermath of the collision. The trucking company just keeps looking dumber & dumber - er. I hope U.P. & Amtrak counter sue under nuisance laws.
