Central Pacific "Steam Locals" in the Eastbay

For all of you rail historians who just might be interested, I wrote an extensive photo story about the old Central Pacific “Steam Locals” which plied the streets of the Eastbay (Oakland—Berkeley, CA) from the 1860’s to around 1911, prior to being replaced by the SP’s “Big Red Trains” of the OA&B Lines, later referred to as the Interurban Electric Railroad (IER) .

The extensive article, which features an in-depth history of CP locomotive # 233, appears in the most recent issue of “The Western Railroader”, published by the Pacific Coast Chapter, Railway & Locomotive Historical Society.
