Dutch Flat January 1975 Amtrak #5

January 1975, Gerald Ford was entering his first full year as president, Richard Nixon was sequestered in San Clemente, and our involvement in Viet Nam would come to an ignominious end in April. With all that in the news, Amtrak Train #5 The San Francisco Zephyr, quietly slipped down thru Dutch Flat and into Gold Run. The snow muffled the dynamics but the clanging of the Magnetic Flagman at Dutch Flat Road could be clearly heard. The SP did not like the snow plows on the then new SDP40F's so an SD40 is in the lead.
