Much as we love railroads and their locomotives, we need our highways.

Please purchase RAND McNALLY "the road atlas", issued each year.
WAL*MART sells them for $5 plus tax, if you don't mind their 24 page store directory.
-otherwise, about three times as much. This atlas is by far the quickest way to find almost any town mentioned in a railroad news article.

Buy a copy for each year. Highlight your travel routes. Circle special spots. Add notes.
Sure improves one's memory.
