When several parties were arguing in court a few years ago as to who would be running the YW, it was brought out that the most important thing was to preserve rail service for Timber Products (Veneer mill)--that without rail service they would close the mill and take the 300 or so jobs to Medford. Further impact: the veneer, chips, and cores going from Yreka to White City keeps approximately 6000 trucks off of I-5 over Siskiyou Summit each year.
