Sandpoint's colors seem to kick in about a week before those up around Bonners Ferry, and seem to last longer. Second weekend of October through third or even fourth weekend seems to be peak for Sandpoint. Best areas along the track are Sandpoint Junction, Dover, both ends of BNSF Lake Pend Oreille bridge, north (RR east) of Boyer, and out along MRL on the lake's north shore. Intense orange trees between Moravia and Bonners Ferry are good mid-October, but the golden trees east of B.F. in the Kootenai River gorge don't really get good until third weekend. Then it's time for points south like St. Maries in early November, etc., etc.
