Surprisingly or maybe not, one has made comment about the effect on train crew members when something like this occurs. For some, an involvement like this will likely be not the only incident that they will incur during their tenure on the railroad. I personally know of one engineer with 28 years seniority, who can point out to every single location of tragedies on various subdivisions that he has been involved in. He identifies them by mileage points. From trespassers, vehicular collisions to the suicides with his train. Imagine going to work knowing that as you pass every site, you remember what horrible incident happened there. To date, he is shouldered with the agony of having seen 19 fatalities and administrating first aid until aid arrived. His wife knows better than to ask "How was your day dear?" This is the person that I feel sadness for, not those who were just plain stupid fun seekers. Why does he stay? His response is that, he will not let stupidity victimize his life. And yes, he is in counseling. All investigations have exonerated him of any blame.
