Sad to see the unions opposing a program that in the long run would add union jobs, improve job security, and overall benefit the industry that provides their jobs and wages. I generally don't favor getting involved with the government, and I am unsure of this for other reasons, but if the railroads have to spend more of their own money and profits, it leaves less money to use to increase railroad wages and jobs, so the union opposition economically means lower wages and fewer jobs. (Gotta count those pennies and do the math.)
