The area where the picture was shot is a lot safer now but you should still use caution especially at night.
New condos along Third street light rail line where the track branches off Caltrain to the shipyard(can't think of the street name) Still a couple of freight cars delivered to a business near Third Street but trains haven't gone farther east than that in many years.
Hunters Point and Mission Bay changed dramatically much of the old buildings gone and part of the area being graded and prepared for brand new housing. Dago Mary's Restaurant torn down a few years ago Lots of artists use some of the old buildings at the shipyards as studios. Someday there may be a new 49ers stadium if the team doesn't move to Santa Clara and thousands of new homes.
New UCSF Mission Bay Campus and Children's Hospital and cancer Center under construction on old Mission Bay Yard. You'd never know it used to be a railyard at that site.
How many trains use that Quint street line? I think there's only one a day. Are they expecting a big increase in dirty dirt traffic or more container traffic from the port to justify the cost? I thought they had to lower the tracks thru the tunnels for doublestacks and I don't know if there's money for that.
