For those that would like to know, the Melbourne streetcars are stored on temporary rails inside a King County warehouse in the 1200-block of 6th Avenue,S -- directly across the street from K.C. Metro's "Central Base" location. They are "sealed" inside the building. They CANNOT be removed from the building for any reason without removing several sections of the NORTH wall of the structure. Rumor has it that King County wants to dump them, but enough interested fans so- far have persuaded them to hold off.

The original plan was to build a multi-purpose structure at 2nd & Main Streets with the CARBARN on the ground floor and offices//retail located upstairs. This fell through.
Then, the grand scheme of things envisioned a physical track extension from current end-of-track at 5th & Jackson Streets (across from old UNION STATION), thru the International District, and down Airport Way to K.C. Metro's "ATLANTIC" Base to a new Carbarn..
Maybe only another mile and a half of track required..

However, they say that the Chinese community of the International District would never have allowed it !! This is BULL !! Why ? Because first of all, for the past MANY years, METRO has used this SAME routing with overhead trolley wires in place, as the ONLY means of returning out-of-service trolley buses back to ATLANTIC Base at Royal Brougham & Airport Way.

Also, the recently approved STREETCAR implementation routing for the "City of Seattle" streetcar project, uses Jackson Street as the main arterial thru the International District to go up to Capitol Hill and First Hill.

And, wouldn't you think the Chinese Community would welcome the trolleys to bring the Tourists to their various businesses ?? So, what goes here anyway ? More Seattle/King County politics ?

Cheers.
