Too bad there aren't more of these SP 2-6-0's to be restored. I remember one of these 1700's pulling the San Joaquin Daylight back in spring 1955. Something must have happened to the power after leaving Oakland and it looked as though they tapped into the Port Costa switcher pool. It caught up to us on the highway near Byron and we followed it into Tracy at a pretty good clip. It was a full consist in those days. Who needs a 4-8-4?
