Skunk Train operations back to normal

The manhunt for the gunman roaming the woods near the Skunk Train route is over.

Aaron Bassler, wanted in two North Coast slayings, was shot and killed in the woods outside Fort Bragg on Saturday, according to law enforcement sources.

The circumstances of his death were still unclear Saturday afternoon, but a deputy with the Sacramento Sheriff's Department said a colleague from his agency was involved in the shooting, which occurred around mid-day.

“He is deceased,” Deputy Ron Parsons said.

No one else was injured, he said.

A member of the U.S. Marshal's Office confirmed Bassler's death.
