Frankly, I'm not the person to do a book on the SP commute operations. I agree with you that the info and photos are out there. It may have to be a joint effort. There should be a few really nice action images in the book along with one Hungerford shot taken on New Years Day, 1956 of 4358 moving light between assignments in the San Jose yard.
I was fortunate as a kid when living in Burlingame around 1949-1951, that my folks would drive up to El Camino and we'd watch the fleet go by in the early evening. I can still remember seeing the distant headlight of the next train as I stood next to the track experiencing one make its patented start south out of Burlingame.
