About that incident in the lower Yakima Valley: Washington Central was absorbed some ten years ago by BNSF. The incident happened on the Yakima Valley sub (the railroad east segment of the Stampede main). The crossings in Mabton seem to be a recurring problem. Maybe peoiple just don't realize that war pumpkins going track speed with loads simply can't stop on a dime. These crossings certainly aren't traps, and have good visability both ways. We'll likely never know what happened in that car.
