File this one under the heading "things the kids get to see while dad's at work." Actually, I remember seeing it a time or two over the years, but it's been a while. And of course I've never been able to photograph it. Sean just called me to report on the scene unfolding behind our house as BNSF's Coeur d'Alene Local, returning from its namesake city, paused at the diamond where their branch crosses UP's Spokane-Eastport main line. Also waiting at the diamond was UP's northbound local, tucked into the short Grand Junction siding. In a matter of minutes a southbound UP rattled through the crossing, then it was up to the locals to decide who goes next. (Most likely the BNSF job.) Wonder if Grand Junction ever saw a three-way meet (or more) in the days when MILW also crossed there.
