George Andrews is correct on all this. One thing to add was, at the last minute in 1968, NP people were scared of this merger, and at the last moment, tried their darnest to stop it from happening. This is what delayed the merger by 2 years. So, ever since, the "BN" people had it in for the former NP people from that point forward, well into the end of the 1980s. One example of this is why the Montana Rail Link was created. It was to adversly effect the former NP people more than anything. This info. per BN Historian Don Woods.
