A 90 percent reduction in traffic in 25 years would be justification enough for any railroad or operator to throw in the towel. Yes, there may be plenty of customers remaining on the line, but when you're only averaging a handful of carloads per week on a line that used to produce dozens, there simply isn't an incentive to maintain service. Other railroads have abandoned branch and even main lines for much the same reason, and there's no point in expecting MRL to be any different.
